Christmas Traditions

With December right around the corner - literally in two days (ack!!) - I am busy gearing up for our daily Christmas traditions. Yes, daily. :)

Last year I wanted to start reading parts of the CHRISTmas story to my kids on a daily basis to prepare our hearts for what the true meaning of Christmas is and to teach them why we celebrate this wonderful day! I am so thankful to say that they LOVE Christmas as much as we do and are totally eating up all of the fun that comes with the most wonderful time of the year!

So I found this great, no frills website that has a nice selection of educational resources for young children and my favorite is their daily breakdown of the Christmas story and corresponding age appropriate activities. Remember making the paper chains when you were younger?? Well its time to pull out your construction paper and glue sticks, folks because that's what's going on here!

-First, print this pdf on 3 pages of card stock. Cut out the strips- 25 total.
-Glue the strips onto strips of Christmas colored scrapbook paper, construction paper, etc.
-Make your paper chain! This is 100% kid-friendly!

Starting on December 1, tear off one link each day, read the passage in the Bible and do the activity.

Here is a list of activities to choose from - and if these seem too complex, just google around until you find something age appropriate - even if it is just printing off a coloring page and letting your toddler color.

I also have printed off the Merry Christmas Songbook from the same website - we love teaching the kids Christmas carols and hymns.

Teaching our children traditions like these takes preparation and this one is really easy to put together. At night after the kids go to bed, I'll look at the next link and get all of my supplies out so that I'm not scrambling at the last minute when they are bouncing around ready to make something.

So now that I've printed my verses, its time to get things ready for the kids to make the paper chain...

Looking forward to sharing more Christmas fun!! What are some of your favorite traditions?
